Sentence starters are a great way to help a reluctant writer to get going. Whether this is fictional or not, your child can have the starter of, “I went to go pick strawberries and…” to help them begin.

If you find that your student is stuck and needs additional help, then prompt them with further questions such as, “Where is the strawberry field?” “Who were you there with?” or “What will you later do with the strawberries?”

This first person narrative is excellent practice and aligns beautifully with the new state standards!
