Do you have difficulty finding a writing topic that will interest your child? Would your child rather play video games than write? Here is the perfect opportunity to combine both you and your little learner’s interests!

Spark a discussion about your child’s favorite game. Ask about checkpoints, or any locations where a race might be over. For example, in Mario there are the flagpoles with the checkpoint on top.

Then, provide your little learner with this free printable. Give them the sentence starter of, “The checkpoint was just ahead…” and have them finish the sentence. Then, they can further a creative story about a character in a game! If they hit any moments of writer’s block then further prompt them with questions such as, “What level is this character on?” “How much further do they have to go?” “Who is the bad guy?” “What is this character ultimately trying to do? Save a princess? Win coins?”
