Wild tigers number have fallen by about 95% over the past 100 years. Of eight subspecies alive in 1900, three are now extinct. As the tiger’s numbers fall from few to critical, the remaining populations are forced into ever smaller and more isolated pockets while human activity shows no sign of becoming any less destructive.

The Association of Zoos and Aquariums estimates that 12000 tigers are being kept as private pets in the US, with 4000 in Texas alone – more than known to exist in the wild throughout the world.
